Ainosuke (ADAM) has a past that deals a lot with domestic abuse. It is physical, psychological and emotional. Even as an adult, he is still in an abusive relationship with his family -- sans the physical abuse portion of it which apparently has stopped.

All of it is internalized in him, and he doesn't fully acknowledge it as something traumatic that happened; he honestly believes he was/is very loved. It probably isn't anything that will ever be something he talks about but it is a big reason why he is the way that he is.
